PressFriends Inc. is holding a new volunteer training on Saturday, January 28, at 3 p.m. in the Purcell Room at the PV Library. If you want to make a difference, sign up here. PressFriends is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) founded by two former local students in 2008, and student volunteers mentor at local Title I elementary schools and help elementary students improve their writing skills. Since 2008, we have mentored over 6,000 underserved elementary students in Los Angeles County. Our student volunteers have gone on to Yale, Dartmouth, NYU, USC, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSB, Johns Hopkins, Chapman, and many more.
In addition to our school and summer programs, we hold some large events. A fun upcoming event is USC Kids News, which is on Saturday, February 4. You must have gone through a new volunteer training to attend. This will be our sixth USC Kids News workshop but our first arts-focused workshop that is co-sponsored by PressFriends and USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, USC Roski School of Art and Design, USC Kaufman School of Dance, and USC School of Cinematic Arts. We expect 250 Title I elementary students to attend. The workshop runs from 8:15 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.
